J. Barry Howell, D.D.S.

Dr. Howell believes that listening and communication are the most important ways to develop trust, confidence and a respectful relationship with his patients. We understand that dental treatment can be stressful. Our office and staff are committed to providing a relaxing, comfortable environment where patients can receive the best dental treatments available. Our goal is to make each visit a positive experience.

Dr. Howell received dual bachelor’s degrees in Biology and Chemistry from Valparaiso University in 1979. After five years of neurochemical research, Dr. Howell attended and graduated from Indiana University School of Dentistry in Indianapolis, receiving his Doctorate in Dental Surgery 1988. Dr. Howell has maintained a private practice in Urbana since 1989. In addition to his private practice, Dr. Howell is proud to volunteer at the Promise Healthcare, Smile Heathy Dental Clinic, providing dental care to the underserved community.

As an active member in the dental profession, Dr. Howell is a member of many professional organizations including the American Dental Association and the Illini District Dental Society. In 2013 Dr. Howell was honored to serve as President of the Illinois State Dental Society, representing over 15,000 dentists and hygienists in Illinois.

Nationally, Dr. Howell has served the American Dental Association on many committees, task forces and Councils. In 2016 Dr. Howell was elected to Chair the American Dental Associations Council on Governmental Affairs in Washington, DC.
